Love the haiku.

When I lived in Japan I didn't work as a teacher and had little interaction with the English-speaking community, so my day-to-day life was quite different from yours. Still, your post brings back so many memories and atmospheres. Love it.

Good, snappy writing - a nice mix of detail and conversational narrative. More, please!

"Teaching in any country is the best of times and the worst of times."

How this resonates, especially since yesterday was my last class of the semester. Good piece.

Wow. I absolutely loved this. Your writing style is totally awesome (unlike my juvenile attempts at a coherent comment!).

Also, those neon green tires on your bike are amazing.

I too miss excursions to onsen ryokan and seeing Japanese kids' faces light up with understanding (rare, but it happens).

"...I’ve never been as creative as I am here in Japan.” Yeah... I need to get back.

Good writeup.
