Yes, Marie, I definitely think you should start talking to yourself out loud in Spanish during your next gym routine. I'd be happy to share some choice phrases with you sometime. Chileans are usually quite reserved, at least from where I sit, but people can really get the scream going during spinning. At least they don't say "no pain, no gain," but that may just be because it doesn't really rhyme in Spanish.

and in case anyone was wondering the stress pattern is: a-cel-ER-a!

Sounds like an awesome way to be!

RE: the gym banter. Kiwis are much too shy for that kind of thing. Even if you get a someone to work out a programme for you they'll say things like, "You could do it this way if you want.", or "Maybe you could try more weight.". Don't be fooled, people do go for the burn, but in a quiet, don't get in anyone else's space kind of way.

Maybe I'll try a bit of S. Am. passion next time I'm in a gym just as a social experiment.

Sarah, I love the class, I do, but I can't help but feel like I'm getting in trouble sometimes, like it's just.not.good.enough, no matter how fast I pedal. But that's probably just me. Vamos vamos vamos is what one of my spinning buddies says, but he's usually just talking to himself.

Julie, it must be the freelancer/city dweller in us! I'm sans baby though. That's got to make a bit of a difference, cierto?

I love how you approached this piece from such a sensory perspective. I also loved how similar your day felt to my own, even though we're in different cities, on different continents. And that header photo is just spectacular.

Love the gym description. I took a spinning class here that was punctuated every five minutes by a war cry of "VAMMOOOOOOOOOOOS!" It was to the tune of disco salsa - don't really know how to describe that mix except with "frenzy."
