I've lived in Thailand for ten years and never seen a Thai teacher put their feet up on a desk. It's highly impolite in Thailand.

Hey Peter,

Glad to know you enjoyed it. Bangkok is certainly a unique place.

In regards to teaching programs, I am hesitant to recommend any. This is simply because I think you get 'jipped' out of having a say in where you can live and what you are getting paid because you have no choice as to where you are going to go. Plus the fees you have to pay the organization. I know a few fellow teachers that came through CIEE, and I shouldn't knock it entirely. I suppose its a good way to get acquainted for 5 months at first and then after you've gotten comfortable you realize getting a job is fairly simple as long as you are here to interview. I just got a job through Ajarn.com. It's good to set up meetings and just come to Thailand as a 'vacation to get hired', especially important to do this during hot hiring times(for instance interviews are being held now (mid feb, early march for the new thai school year that starts in beginning of May).

Katherine,

Great read! It's so cool to hear the daily life. I was in Bangkok for 4 amazing nights when I went to Southeast Asia.

I'm thinking of teaching abroad as well, are there any programs you can recommend?

Thanks! Peter

Great post! I taught in Thailand as well and remember it fondly, especially the sweet students and their constant hugging. I agree with the forum - can't wait to read more posts!
