Carol, it’s great to hear that the piece resonated with you, as someone who has also visited Srinagar. I didn’t end up doing too much of the touristy stuff, though I did see Dal Lake from the back of a rickshaw. And I got mehendi applied in Lal Chowk. I wanted to wander further into the gulleys, but Sayma said she didn’t want to, because if a bomb went off we’d have nowhere to run. (That convinced me.) The second half of the piece is up — I’d be curious to hear your take on that as well! Thanks for reading.

You have captured the nuances of Kashmiri life beautifully. I had been to Srinagar a few months ago and I can completely relate to what you have penned in your article. I hope you managed to visit the tourist spots in the end.They are absolutely stunning
