This is such a great read! I was born and brought up in Wales (though don't speak Welsh past GCSE standard) and agree with you: it's a wonderful-sounding language. Cwtch is one of my favourite words :)

Haha awesome! I'm an American dude from Alaska who speaks quite a few languages, but I've always been fascinated with Cymraeg. I've been teaching myself the language for a few years, and am fairly good with my mutations/etc. I really need to get to Wales to really get the language down, but its awesome to hear there's other Cymru-philes like myself. I know it can be done, I'm almost there. I swear, I'll get this damned language soon :p :D

That was a stunning read! It's so inspiring to find so many people learning more "obscure" languages, not just out of necessity or practicality but out of a genuine love and adoration and appreciation for a language. So many days I worry for the future of our world but seeing pieces like this make me smile and know everything's going to be okay as long as there are people like you in our generation :)

Thanks Candice (and everyone!) for leaving nice comments on my first piece! I've just moved back to Wales after a few years elsewhere, and I almost feel like I need to start all over again…hopefully it'll all come back to me quickly! I have definitely missed learning languages.

Great article! I had a Welsh roommate when I lived in england, and she always referenced a quote from someone that said that Welsh people seem to sing when they talk. She also used to ask for a cwtch.

Thanks for sharing your experience!
