We visited our son & family in Okinawa recently and would like to be able to identify a few of the birds that we saw there. Perhaps you could help me. One was the Blue Bird with the rust colored lower belly. Another was a small light green bird with white around the eyes - small like a finch. Another we saw along the coast on the way to Nago and was a bright blue and resembled a small heron or egret. The others were large black birds like a crow or raven. We stayed at Camp Foster near Naha.

I would like to be able to add a few new birds to my Life List. Thanks!

Thanks to everyone for your kind comments. The Ryukyu Flying Fox is indeed called a Fruit Bat. It's also listed as an endangered species, though I see them everyday. For years I thought they were helping me keep the mosquito population under control, but they don't; they eat fruits and plants !

I Lived in Okinawa for a couple of years when I saw a picture of the bat I had to laugh, we would take walks at night this five pound bat would hang from a tree right outside my front door. How about the Banana spiders they are a sight to see. Love the pictures brought back many memories.
