My brother actually accidentally boarded a flight from Milwaukee to South America with a 4 inch blade knife in an outer mesh pocket from his backpack. He had just come back from Boy Scout camp and had forgotten to take it out. It went straight through the X rays and the TSA people didn't even notice. That's pretty scary to think about.
