I don’t think you would necessarily have any problems – I have had many wonderful experiences traveling as a single woman. Commonsense when it comes to personal safety is always a good thing, but there are plenty of single women out there traveling and writing about it too – Ottsworld and Nomadic Chick are two of my favorite blogs to read of this type.

I did go to Fo Guan Shan, and I really loved it there! I participated in a silent weekend retreat last year, and thought about doing the Wooden Fish project, but it didn’t work out with my timing. That’s great that you did it – I’ve heard it’s an excellent program.

Though I’m a bit late to the commenting, Montreal, Toronto, Vancouver, and Calgary in Canada all have annual “Study and Go Abroad” fairs. It might be the closest us Canadians can get to the fairs you are talking about! Here’s the link: http://www.studyandgoabroad.com/

I have often thought about persueing this direction. Would you say you had any problems traveling as a single women?

If you are still in Kaohsiung, Taiwan make sure to visit Fo Guan Shan Monastery. I participated in there “Wooden Fish” project. I highly recommend it.
