The ANU is a fantastic university and the campus life is strong.  Sure, Canberra is no Sydney or Melbourne but there really is a decent amount of stuff to do and it is worth it to go to a top university.  It suits studious and sporty types very well indeed.  Plus, it is only three hours from Sydney and even closer to the south coast, so it's pretty easy to get to the beach if you want. I think it’s a bit mean to give Canberra such a bad rap. Really, it's madness to have a list of where to study in NZ and not mention Dunedin, our only real University Town and with the oldest and often best rated uni in NZ. Regardless of rankings anyway, it's really just where students congregate! So yeah, add Otago University to your list! @ Lesley

Otago is a top medical school, as well as being home to New Zealand's dentistry school, physed, and more. And since the campus is surrounded by student flats and little else, it is the best university for socialising, by far!!!
