I took this photo on a dive trip with friends. It was my first time to the island of Komodo, Indonesia for trekking and diving. I always carry an underwater camera on every dive, and this time, I never stopped taking photos of the coral reefs and the fish. I've experienced almost all the dive spots in Indonesia, and this is one of my favorites. [Canon G11, ISO 100] This postcard comes from Matador Community member Shinatria Adhityatama, who currently lives in Jakarta, Indonesia. He's an underwater archeologist who loves travel, adventure, culture, and photography. After traveling around Indonesia for years, he's now planning to travel around the world. While my husband was brokering a deal on a boat down the Amazon River, I stood in the heat and sticky humidity of Iquitos, "panning" the fury of tuk tuks flying past me. The streets were teeming with them. Families with their groceries stacked high headed home, tourist taxis and local workers ending the day all buzzing up and down the streets. Some passengers waved or threw up peace signs as they went past, and I followed them with my camera. Iquitos was a city of motion, very much alive, like the Amazon rainforest we were about to enter. [18mm, ISO 100, f 7.1, 1/15] This postcard comes to us from Maryanne Wirkkanen, who currently lives in Vancouver, BC, Canada. It’s been twenty years, almost to the day, since I took this photograph. Twenty years since I gave up my place on that damp patch of Dharamsala earth to one of the countless Tibetans who could better understand His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s teaching. As I walked alone along the road to Bhagsu you came up behind me, silently took my hand, and together we walked. Five of your steps for every one of mine, then slower and slower still until my steps became yours. You didn’t smell flowers but inhaled them (and wore a rim of mustard pollen around your nose); didn’t avoid cows, but ran to each one and greeted them. The flowers you didn’t inhale were set adrift in the stream. We watched each one until it disappeared around the bend, as if there was no other reason for that moment. - This postcard comes from Matador Community member Scott Hartman.

Ever since I was a child, I've carried with me a fascination for sharks, sparked with bedtime stories from my father. One image burned into my mind forever was that of a man cage diving with the Great White, a life goal I was later able to complete with my two brothers while on an Around the World trip. For this shot, I wanted to capture man tempting beast. The crewmember ladled out this vile mixture of blood and guts, drawing the sharks closer with each splash into the cold water. Shortly after, I was below the surface and an arm's length away, separated by thin metal bars with my heart pounding beneath my wetsuit. As dark shadows turn to flesh and cold eyes dart back and forth, powerful tail strokes and jagged teeth remind you that you're at the bottom of the food chain. You know it and they know it. This shot was taken on a 6-day safari with my family during the new year. I was filming the majority of the safari, but once we got into Ngorongoro Crater I was mesmerized and had to take some pictures. Even though it was cloudy, the green of the grass was vibrant and the atmosphere within the crater was peculiarly well lit. I wish I had been permitted to get out of the car and set up my tripod for a timelapse. The two healthy zebras to the left helped perfectly to frame everything together. The amount of life in the crater was non-stop.
