I HAVE AN EASIER TIME reflecting on my life when I’m outside of my everyday setting, whether that’s travel far from home, or just stepping into nature for an hour or two. It’s a gift to allow — even encourage — ourselves to be swept up in such reflective contemplation.

Great collection, here is a favorite I can’t get out of my mind. Maybe because I spend too many days on my mountain bike…lost, finding, enjoying, reflecting every minute of it.

“Contrary to what we usually believe…the best moments in our lives are not the passive, receptive, relaxing times-although such experiences can also be enjoyable, if we have worked hard to attain them. The best moments usually occur when a person’s body or mind is stretched to its limits in a voluntary effort to accomplish something difficult and worthwhile. Optimal experience is thus something we make happen. Such experiences are not necessarily pleasant at the time they occur, yet those could have been the best moments of life.” – - – - Mihaly Csikszentmihaly.
