Gabriela,

Haven't heard of that specific program, but I'm glad to hear the "model" is catching on across the country.

This is awesome, giving at-risk youths a skill they can foster and be proud of. I can't cook at all so what these kids are stepping up to (and how the teachers and program leaders are teaching them) is so admirable to me.

Great article!

I think this is a fantastic idea. I've heard of another similar program in L.A. called Homeboy Industries. They work to rehabilitate former gang members and run a bakery and a restaurant.

So glad to hear about this trend. I'm a fan of these sorts of approaches - providing skills and opportunities to at-risk youth - in general, and I think cooking is particularly well-suited. Am I imagining it, or is there almost a tradition of rags-to-riches chef stories? I know Gordon Ramsay comes from decidedly humble/troubled roots. Maybe one of these kids will follow in his (angry, cursing) footsteps!
