I have to admit, I'm torn on "cash for clunkers" - I appreciate the environmental side of things, but I don't really think the North American auto industry is one to be propping up. There are soooo many still-functional used cars sitting in driveways, backyards, sales lots, etc, that I find the idea of encouraging purchase of new ones - especially from companies that were in deep trouble, for the simple reason that they produce a sub-standard product, long before the recession hit - kind of troubling. You'd think there would be a reasonably affordable way to reduce carbon emissions on some used vehicles - but that's not something the Big Three want to see happening... Very interesting, Julie.
