As America approaches the end of the light sweet crude oil era, and is dashed into converting from liquid energies to electrical energies, we will see an end to the horrible exploitation of areas for oil and an new "Lithium Mining drama” of untold damages will replace it! Fact is, Americans do everything by the "Bottom Line" capitalist rules! this makes for a Hell of a Mess for everyone else! The problem, is not the oil barons, or the Americans, it is the corporatists and Capitalists who run the show, and they are armed by American Corporate law which obliges the boards of directors to, first, and above all other concerns, protect the shareholder's investment! This is the law in America! These poor assholes can be persecuted under the law for not doing so! The environment, or any other altruistic nonsense is not even addressed by the laws of incorporation! Look this up! Satisfy yourself! It is so! Where ever Americans under the laws of incorporation operate, it is thus, now with oil, later with electric bullet train networks, even for the lithium mining for electric cars, corporate law will apply, and the indecency of Americans under corporate law will be amplified! Remember: in 1973, Ford sold the Pinto firebomb, burned Americans to death and were commended by governing bodies for taking care of the shareholders first! This happens in America too! America! Capitalist! Forever! Love it, or leave it!

Chevron has used it's virtually unlimited money and resources to promulgate endless PR articles and events since the beginning of this litigation.

The press reported much of that and, until recently, have paid less attention to reports made by Amazon Watch and the legal team on behalf of the Ecuadorian plaintiffs.

So it's very heartening to know the LA Times and CBS 60 Minutes have recently raised the level of awareness of the pollution and devastation of natural resources in the once pristine Amazon forest.

Now, the writer's first person reporting points out many of the human side of the issues.

Bravo to Michaela, 60 Minutes and the LA Times!

Thanks for writing this piece. I know about all of the Chevron-annigans but it's even more eye-opening when you hear eyewitness accounts like this one.

Whilst the damage has been done, I wish you and the team filing the lawsuit against Chevron all the best, a very heavy amount of money should come out of them for damage limitation and cleaning up what they have caused and assist the residents who have suffered as a result of their incompetence.
