This is a really nice & timely blog post! I just wanted to introduce Kenya Kesho to your viewers...

Kenya Kesho is a non-profit organization that is actively involved in many educational projects that will improve the lives for kids in our Coastal communities. The Charity was started by Peter & Sandra Ruysenaars in 2006 as a way to make our communities more liveable, and to help kids have better tomorrows. Our slogan is: EDUCATE TO ERADICATE POVERTY.

ACHIEVEMENTS:
* we currently pay full salaries for 24 teachers
* we pay full tuition for 16 students to attend secondary school
* Kenya Kesho Trust has renovated a classroom at Mzizima Primary School. Mzizima Village is a very small fishing village and there is no formal employment, except at the school.
* Beach Clean Ups, Water & Sanitation - Kenya Kesho supervises regular beach cleanups and supplies the materials with which to carry out these cleanups.
* The volunteers with Go See Kenya have made in excess of 30 desks for the schools in this area
* The Kenya Kesho Trust creates job opportunities for ladies in the village who sell us ‘Ufutas’ – sesame seed sweets, which are packaged and sold to tourists through Charlie Claws as a means of self-help.
* Community Upkeep
* & much more...
---------

We desperately NEED teachers!! If you're in your GAP year, come on down! We'll even take you dolphin spotting, dhow sailing & scuba diving while you're here. :-)
You can visit out website & we're also on FaceBook (KenyaKesho).

Cheers!

Hi! This is a great article, finally pointing out that there is a Western half of the continent which is almost totally overlooked by people who want to volunteer. I lived in Togo for 4 years, it is a really interesting country and loads of chances to do some good there! Have a look at this organisation for example: http://www.hthglobal.org/volunteer.html
