This is very moving & very thought provoking. It saddens me to think that so much of this goes on in a supposed civilised world in the twenty first century,

This story should be essential reading for women and men.

Kudos for shedding light on female foeticide, especially. I don't think it's discussed enough, and the consequences make my skin crawl.

Absolutely. Even if we can make tiny changes in the world, I think it's worth it in the end :)

Thanks for this piece Reeti. It's so important to vocalize support by speaking out against violence, discrimination and harassment, and enable women to have more control over their own lives.

I agree with Heather - very powerful piece, very sobering.

Even more than the great ideas listed, we can use our voices to encourage our government to bring pressure on the governments of countries where these atrocities take place. Even where there may be laws on the books against such heinous acts, enforcement needs to be a priority. But most important in the war against violence against women is education - we need to support efforts to educate younger generations of both males and females that this cannot be tolerated. When men grow up having learned respect for women, maybe we can finally put this issue to rest as a painful past, never to be repeated.
