Hi Beth, I read your very interesting article on dive volunteer opportunities. I see you are also a marine biologist and DM.

I am starting up a non-profit organisation based in Australia called DiVo (for Dive Voluntourism) which aims to bring volunteer marine conservation activities to the attention of recreational divers. I am now building a search engine optimised website targetted at the recreational tourist diver. Most of the groups that do this are pretty hard to find, unless they have existed a long time and/or have the resources to build a search engine optimised website so that google crawlers can pick it up high in the ranking. The organisations you named like Coral Cays, Blue Ventures GVI etc fall into that big-boy category.

I am initially focussing on Australian based volunteer activities, which are a mix of non-profit groups like ReefCheck Australia, Earthwatch and local community based monitoring/underwater research groups. Some are free of charge to join, others require some payment to cover costs and support the research/conservation objective. There are too many to name, even harder to find out about them, so I suss out what they do and showcase it on my website. Hopefully my website will be more easily found by the recreational diver.

I am also having articles and Q&As being contributed by voluntourism industry people. Although the initial content will be largely Australian (because I am there), I hope the readership will be international and I wld love to showcase international voluntourism activities. Wld u be interested in doing an article or Q&A for my website? It wld be great if you can talk about the marine research related tourism opps that you have personally encountered on the road, or independent researchers you have heard of who are looking for funding and volunteers, maybe my website can help. This is all free of charge - I don't sell advertising space for links, it's all non-profit and from the heart.

If you are interested, I am happy to have you follow Divo on Facebook, and will send u a link to my test website when it is up and running. Anyone else following this thread, feel free to contact me and I can befriend you on facebook too.

Hi Ivan... Sorry it took so long for me to reply! Well, there are several options for you if you want to volunteer. Check out some of the organizations in this article, as some of them do offer projects in the Philippines. If you need help researching let me know!
