Thanks for the comment, Guillermo. Totally agree about impunity and applying the law. It's really another paradox in the whole situation.

And thanks for pointing out the typos -- oops!!

Appreciate you reading and sharing your views...

One of the main problems in Brazil is the impunity. You can commit all kinds of crime (political, economical, criminal) and you know the justice system is slow and you'll probably end up not in jail. The problem is not the law (although it should be changed and enforced), the problem is to apply the law properly. It would help a lot.

Another thing, please don't call São Paulo as Sao PAOLO. We don't speak spanish in Brazil so it should be named in portuguese. And Marina Silva is a woman, so "she" explained to The Guardian, not "he". Besides that, great article.

I am glad you wrote this article addressing domestic violence. Even today, sad its still happening, not just in Brazil, but worldwide. I have spent some time in Brazil, my bf is from there, the bureaucracy is very murky to work through. He is from the same town the recent victim, was killed. Everyone in that town was shocked and sad...as everywhere else. Apparently, a lot of these footballers have parties, most are married, and mess around with party girls invited. If a girl gets pregnant, she will seek child support, which is their right. If the guy is so worried about being trapped, use condoms or keep it in their pants! A lot of Brazilian wives know their husbands will stray, but put up with it, and look the other way. I believe, on some level, they are afraid of being alone, not only financially, but fear of social stigma and/or being abused. Divorce is highly stigmatized, plus hard to navigate through the legal system. I hope the footballer, who killed his lover, is held accountable. There are good and bad everywhere.
