Welcome to VIN volunteering projects. Our volunteer work is dedicated to empowering the most marginalised communities in Nepal. Our volunteer and internship service programs include women's empowerment, child care at early childhood development centers, orphanages, teaching English in schools & monasteries, health care
service, construction and manual work,
child rights and education etc.
Our Mission

Volunteers Initiative Nepal's (VIN) mission is to empower marginalized communities, with a focus on women and children, through enhanced educational programs and community training to promote equality, economic well-being and basic human rights.

About VIN

Volunteers Initiative Nepal (VIN) is a non-religious,
non-political, non-governmental, non-for-profit organization (NGO) which
was founded in 2005 by a diverse group drawn from development workers,
educationalists, social activists and other professionals. VIN is
officially registered under the Society Act with the District
Administration Office Kathmandu (Reg No. 147/062/63), and is also
affiliated to the Social Welfare Council Nepal (SWC) (Affiliation No.
20910). VIN focuses on community-based projects involving local
volunteers backed up by international volunteers in Nepal.

Objectives

VIN aims to give people the right tools and knowledge to help themselves. The focus is on helping women and children
through special educational programs and community training projects
conducted independently and/or in association with like minded
organisations. VIN has adopted an integrated community development approach through voluntary services by welcoming overseas and local volunteers.

Specific objectives include:

To help make women self-reliant through a number of initiatives
including literacy classes; income generation projects; savings and
credits groups and raising awareness on health, sanitation and the
environment.
To support and provide facilities for early childhood development, encouraging a good, basic foundation for young children at the start of their education.
Provide a platform for children to participate in non-formal
creative activities, as well as developing their life skills and making
them aware of their basic rights, through the establishment of
Children's Clubs in schools.
To help children who have suffered as a result of the conflict to regain access to education.
Provide sponsored education to disadvantaged children including orphans, conflict victim children and children from very poor and disadvantaged families.
Provide community youths with English language classes;
a youth club forum in which to enhance their social and professional
skills and with the opportunity to volunteer within their local
community.
Raise awareness of the need for English language skills and to facilitate teaching English within schools, Buddhist monasteries and nunneries.
Help ensure the quality of education being provided, through
conducting teacher training workshops, seminars and exchange visits.
Provide resources and healthcare professionals to assist the health post, which serves the local community.
Raise awareness of the benefits of good sanitation and provide education in personal hygiene.
Offer
support in the establishment of a Community Learning Center (CLC) to
provide learning platforms for eliminating illiteracy and for developing
the professional capacity of local people.
To support orphanages through offering financial assistance for
education, food and clothing, and through the placement of volunteers.
Introduce international volunteers to the richness of Nepali culture and ensure a safe and memorable stay in a supportive environment. To provide safe affordable and structured volunteer work support for gap year fresh and professionals.

International Volunteer Programs

VIN offers extremely competitive and affordable fees for volunteer work in Nepal and
has been mobilizing international and local volunteers in its various
programs, helping make a sustainable difference and improve the lives of
Nepali people in the most disadvantaged communities.

Community Based Volunteer PlacementsVolunteers participating in community based projects will
be placed with a host family within the community in which they are
working. In addition to receiving food and accommodation, this is also
an excellent opportunity for volunteers to immerse themselves in the
Nepali community, within a supportive environment, learning about Nepali
lifestyle, culture and language and sharing their culture in return.

VIN has a number of volunteering opportunities within the rural community, these include:

Women's Empowerment Projects such as women's education; income
generation; savings and credits; and health, sanitation and the
environment.
Child Care Initiatives such as children's clubs; early
childhood development; schooling for conflict victims and orphanage
support.
Youth Development Schemes such as a community youth club to develop life skills and English language classes.
Teacher Training and Education, including workshops, seminars and exchange visits.
The Health Program, which mobilises volunteer healthcare
professionals to see and treat patients and raise awareness on
sanitation issues.
Additional volunteer projects in the community include the
establishment of a community learning center; construction and manual
work, and environment and agroforestry.

Monastery and Nunnery PlacementsAlthough
VIN's main focus is on development projects within the rural community,
VIN also provides volunteer placement opportunities in monasteries and
nunneries. This program helps educate young monks and nuns in
conversational English, as well as developing their life skills and
providing an opportunity to participate in creative activities.

Volunteers are placed in the monastery or nunnery in which they are teaching,
and in addition to receiving food and accommodation, they are also able
to witness and gain a fascinating insight into Tibetan Buddhist
practices and rituals.

VIN a meaningful local volunteer organization offering affordable
volunteering programs abroad, meaningful vacations and gap year travel
in Nepal, Asia. Whether you are planning to volunteer abroad, take a gap
year or go on a meaningful vacation, we offer you very affordable
travel programs in Asia!

My beautiful 9 weeks voluntreering in Nepal

When I began my search for volunteer organizations in Nepal from home, I was overwhelmed by the number of options. After further research and e-mail correspondence with several organizations, I decided to apply to VCD Nepal. And I'm so thankful I did! I came to realize not only through my own experiences, but also from speaking with other volunteers working in Nepal, that VCD was the right choice. The prices are the lowest and the language lessons and cultural awareness sessions proved to be invaluable. Bicky, the director, was consistently helpful and supportive during my 9 weeks of placement.

VCD Nepal was extremely accommodating and flexible in providing me with the placements I wanted. I was given good guidance in my work, but also freedom to create my own projects and implement my own ideas.

I wanted to see as much as Nepal as I could, so for the first 3 weeks I lived with a wonderful family in Chitwan and taught English at the Secondary School. Then I moved to the Pokhara region to teach Primary School. My last two weeks were spent living and working in an orphanage outside of Kathmandu. I recommend the home-stay 1,000%!! It's been the most memorable part of my experience and my main reason for falling in love with the Nepali people and culture.

My only regret is not staying at each place longer. Three weeks really is the minimum amount of time you need feel apart of the community and get something accomplished. It always felt too soon to leave. Now, after 9 weeks, I would like to give a huge THANK YOU to VCD Nepal for giving me such a life-changing experience. This has been more educational and eye-opening that anything I've studied in college and left me with incredible memories and many new friends which I will keep for life.

Everybody should volunteer in Nepal! You'll love it!!

My Volunteering experience in Nepal

I arrived in Kathmandu realising that it wasn't going to be easy to find some volunteering work. How wrong I found myself! Very rapidly my worries of traveling on a wing and a pray disappeared as I discovered the welcoming nature of the Nepali people. It is through this generosity and good will that I came to know VCD Nepal. Very rapidly and efficiently the placement I wanted to do was set up. The school was a incredibly welcoming and the children where just as you would expect them to be, buzzing with energy and incredibly curious. The classes where hard at first but with VCD Nepal's helpful guide book packed full of games, lesson plans and teaching method the whole process became a walk in the park.

VCD is a special NGO, it is rivaling large companies who offer placements here for large amounts of money, with which little of this money is seen arriving the actual people who need it. This is something which really put my heart at rest, the idea that my money (which I worked damn hard for!) was going to a good cause! VCD also offered me great opportunities as a amateur photographer. I was able to do two weeks volunteering whilst taking pictures in different regions of Nepal with the prospect of getting some pictures published in a the National newspaper. It's been a great experience and I wouldn't change it for the world! The beauty of the whole thing is that it supports the real local people rather than large companies based abroad millions of miles away from the realities on the ground. VCD has a great leadership, is very approachable and honest NGO doing great work in Nepal! There is no doubt in my mind that i will be returning to volunteer for them again!
