What better way to start the day than with a swim to put you in the right state of mind. It is always a bit of an effort getting to the pool, after all who really feels like plunging into cold water at 8.00 in the morning? However, once in and set into your rhythm you are glad you came. It almost feels like a meditation as you go up and down the pool, the water drowns out any sounds and if you wear earplugs like me, well you can almost block out the rest of the world completely.
This morning there were few people in the pool so the water was calm and it was a real pleasure to glide up and down. It all felt so easy, it’s not always like that, sometimes each stroke feels heavy but today was a good day. Maybe it was because the sun is out today and the sky is that beautiful blue than you only get in Italy. It is autumn and as I swam I could see the trees in their full glory from the pool.
After my swim I headed for my favourite bar, ordered a latte and sat down with my computer. However, today was a day people wanted to chat so my computer just sat there talking to itself. I had a little chat to a lady about the Lord of the Rings, the Hobbit and Doctor Who. Then it was the turn of an old gent I know and he was kind enough to pay for my latte, he even wanted me to join him for an expresso as well but I think I would have been dancing off the walls with any more caffeine in me.
I decided it was time to go home and get constructive, as I walked in the front door I was greeted with the smell of homemade cake, good job I resisted the expresso and didn’t succumb to a cornetto for breakfast. Well who could resist homemade walnut and apple cake. We had collected the walnuts a couple of weeks previously from a tree at my brother-in-law’s.
The cake was yummy, the sun is still shining and I really must get on, I hope my afternoon continues in the same way as this morning.
