Not only was this my first time away from my family on Christmas, I couch surfed for the first time, walked through a traditional European Christmas market, drank mulled wine, went to my first European cinema and saw the new €40,000 ($52,000) illuminated/musical Christmas tree in the center.
I know this video isn’t the best quality but I couldn’t pass up showing this “tree.” This was the first year it was put up, replacing the usual 65-foot pine tree, and in my opinion it looks a lot like scaffolding:
Alex and I hung out and were given tours by our friends from Utrecht (Tanguy and Francois) and they showed us the famous Delirium bar with more than 1,000 beers, an absinthe bar, the inside of a true Belgian home and get yelled at by the Belgian Politie for playing “football” with a soda bottle in the street.
Most memorable moments:
-Our friend 50cent spilling a shot of a flaming absinthe in the bar that burnt his shirt and my arm hairs
-Alex spilling her flaming shot not more than 15 seconds later
-My suitcases ending up in Brussels when I asked Tanguy and Francois if I could leave them at their place in Utrecht
-Eating my favorite European food of all times: A giant portion of friets in a cardboard cone with a ladle of mayonnaise scooped on top (I know it sounds gross, and I never even liked mayo until now, but it’s actually amazing AND the mayonnaise tastes different here)
-Meeting a stranger who would be letting us sleep at his place for a week:
THANK YOU MOUH FOR HOSTING US!
