  2. I get you – French is complicated! The formality can also varies regionally and socially. For example, in Martinique (an overseas department), using ‘tu’ to strangers and just about anyone is quite normal in most settings. Also, amongst youth or peers, it would be seen as standoffish and rejecting to use ‘vous’.
