3-11-1989 Indian Himalayas – from my journal

Walked 8K to Auli. Photos of monkeys. Beautiful hike up. Photos of Nanda Devi. Got off track walking in the snow. Finally found the ski hill. Rented skis, boots, and poles for 30 rupees ($2US). NO LIFTS! Walked up and skied down – snow is wet and sticky. Walked half way up and skied down. Quit. Met a New Zealander – Patricia. Hiked back to Joshimath. Mutton for supper. Finished Hemingway The Fifth Column.
