Reflection: 2012
Where do I start to begin summing up 2012? I genuinely believe that 2012 has been the best year of my life so far. A year of growth and development not just photographically but also as a person. As clichéd as it sounds, I feel like 2012 is the year that I found myself. Originally I had planned this post to be a reflection of my year in 12 images. However as I began to sort through my personal favourite shots I quickly realised that there was no way I could ever begin to cut down my images to just 12. Each image holds a special place in my heart; whether that be for the people I met and photographed, the emotions I felt at the time or just the way the image reminds me of a special place.
If I strip away the 5 months I spent travelling through Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam and China or the aspect of moving to a new city on my return, I can truly say the people I have met are the ones that have shaped my year and made it so special. Seeing the incredible work of organisations such as The Mae Tao Clinic, Children of the Forest, Baan Dada, Compasio and all the other special NGOs working to help create a better life for migrants and refugees living along the border of Thailand and Burma has given me realisation that we take so much for granted and what we do have we should be extremely grateful of what we have and the people we have to care for us.
Looking forward to 2013 and I am excited at the opportunities that lie ahead. Already I have some incredible projects lined up and some things that only a few years ago would have been a dream. Happy new year to everybody and I hope 2013 is an even better year than last.
