Majestic Melbourne
- Melbourne is like Australia’s little New York. It boasts chic café’s, historical museums, impressive art galleries, talented musicals, and most importantly, it is the city that never sleeps. Especially with the cool climate, where rugging up in all your warm jackets and boots is a must, everyone, everywhere, is always on the move to that next Italian dinner reservation, or that new art exhibition in town. Journeying into Melbourne is a unique experience from any other city in Australia, as it’s metro culture founded on all things fashion, entertainment, and food and wine is vastly different to other cities such as Sydney and Brisbane, who boast other cultures of surf and regional city-life. For some who enjoy warmer climates, it is best to stick to places which are hotter, but for those who don’t mind getting caught in the rain as you walk by shops, with a latte in hand, than Melbourne is just the right place for you. Don’t let it rain on your parade though, go out and shop til you drop at Bourke Street, which is known as the city’s main shopping district, where all the big designer brands are located, or if you fancy something a bit more relaxed, you could take a walk around the botanical gardens and take some shots of the city’s sky line from the steps of the Shrine of Remembrance. In terms of food and wine, the city is just crawling with restaurants, some hidden in tight candle-lit alleyways, some more out in the open to watch the sun set at 9 pm, or some are even taken on the dinner tram that circles around the city, so you can take in some sight seeing while you sip a Sauvignon Blanc. If you decide to visit some touristy attractions though, Melbourne boasts everything from the Melbourne Gaol, where legendary bush ranger and outlaw Ned Kelly was hanged, to the iconic Luna Park and the monumental Melbourne Flinders St. Station. The highlight of my trip to Melbourne though was the Melbourne Supper Club, renown for it’s popularity with business people who use the club for connections over a glass of Port, or if your not a business person, you can still enjoy the intimate atmosphere of the terraced cafe overlooking the Parliament House.
