My parents recently told me to count how many houses we'd lived in as a family before I turned sixteen. Moving frequently for my father's work I knew it would be quite high, but I still got a shock after writing down all of the addresses. Eleven. Could this explain my love for travel and the need to live nomadically? Perhaps!

After graduating with a degree in English Literature, I took a truly terrible job packing CD roms into boxes at a publishing company. Doing this day in, day out for five months was about as depressing as watching a looped slow-motion video of a dog being put to sleep. I thought up a devious - and ultimately successful - plot to get myself fired. I then took a job at an advertising agency. Surely a step up in the world! Well, it would've been had the director not been a suicidal alcoholic and the deputy director a flaming racist. All the while I was in a long term relationship that wasn't going anywhere and there was a feeling like I was rotting away. Something was missing. Wait a minute... what was that thing I always wanted to do since the age of thirteen, more than anything else? I finally remembered who I was, quit the job, broke up with the girlfriend and set off around the globe.

That was three years ago. Since then, I've travelled to twenty-one countries and lived for significant periods of time in Korea, China and Italy. The best trip by far was thirty-one days in Iran. I went to try to live with members of the anti-Ahmedinejad green protest movement. I made friends for life with a number of them and have collected some incredible stories. You can follow them on my blog as I publish the story of my trip week by week:
