Sierra has been in love with mountains from the age of three, when she rode a llama 3,100 miles across the backbone of the North American continent on the Continental Divide Trail. Born into a family of long-distance adventurers, Sierra grew up traversing the world with her parents’ work as travel writers. As an anthropology and geography student at Temple University, she applied her studies abroad by spending a summer studying the sustainability of Peru’s trekking routes to Machu Picchu. In 2011, as a student with the School for International Training, she investigated the effectiveness of tourism policy in Nepal and Bhutan at alleviating poverty in rural, Himalayan communities. Recognizing that travelers cannot turn their backs on the places they come from, Sierra designed a college course at Temple University to engage students with watershed issues by canoeing the length of the Schuylkill River. A fresh college graduate, Sierra is currently living in China with her boyfriend and teaching students at a primary school in Mianyang city. Every weekend she heads to the hills, or more correctly the foothills of the Himalaya, to play outside!
