It is important to clarify the situation affecting Mompox in this terrible winter. There is flooding in the area, but it remains possible to visit this UNESCO recognised town.
Arriving from the interior and Bogota:
Take any bus heading to EL BANCO as normal. This will now take you to the town of TAMALAMEQUE. You will be dropped at the boats going to El Banco. In El Banco you can change for Mompox. If you are lucky there will be boats direct from TAMALAMEQUE to MOMPOX.
Arriving from the Caribbean Coast:
The route from CARTAGENA is open all the way to MAGANGUE. In Magangue you can catch a chalupa all the way to Mompox. In fact, the boat all the way from Mompox makes this a more comfortable journey.

The SITUATION IN MOMPOX AS OF DECEMBER 24 2010:
There are puddles in the streets, the river is high but has been dropping as a result of 5 straight days of blazing sunshine. People from more humble barrios have received terrible floods but, this has affected the historic centre very little. Hotels and restaurants remain open as do the silver filigree workshops. Despite the floods it is business as usual here.
