Ok, so I love to plan. I admit it, I am not ashamed of my love of planning.. in fact I am quite boastful about my love of planning. I try to make others in my life plan like I do but unfortunately it doesn’t have much effect. I have a friend who is a fellow planner so we have ‘planning meetings’ (some might call them ‘lunch’!) and discuss our mutual love of planning.
One of the things I love to plan is my travel. I love investigating the place I have decided to go, I love looking at maps and seeing where everything is – one of my favourite things is Google Street Maps, where you take the little man and put him on the street and you can actually see everything! It’s brilliant!!
It is not unusual for me to have a couple of trips in the planning stages… case in point, at the moment I am planning not one, not two but 4 trips!!!! Ok so two of those trips are to Christchurch, my home town and they don’t really need planning but I still have to get the airfares, rent a car and decide what I am going to do so, yes, I am planning for them too..
One of the other trips is to Vancouver & Alaska in September. Mind you, it is not taking too much planning considering I am only in Vancouver for 3 full days and then I am on a 7 day cruise – which, lets face it, you don’t have to plan ANYTHING except for what time to get breakfast!!! So that has kind of taken care of itself… but I have discovered some awesome things about Vancouver – they have a Shakespeare school!!!! Well I think that’s what it is.. It’s called Bard on the Beach and they put on Shakespeare plays – at the time I am there they have Twelfth Night, Measure for Measure and my all time favourite Hamlet playing. So of course I am planning on going… anyhoo, I digress.
So yeah I love planning… I think this has finally come to a head however and I think people are starting to thing I am actually crazy instead of just being extremely prepared…
I have decided that in 349 days I am going to go back to the UK.. I have decided on and booked my two weeks leave. I will be flying to London, getting the train to Edinburgh & having two nights there, then getting the train to York & having two nights there, then the train to London and having 9 nights in London. That’s all very well & good but I have just booked my London accommodation for said trip – this is the reason that people think I’m crazy! I’m sorry but I have found a really great deal of an fully contained apartment just down the road from the Tower of London for £70 per night!! That works out to be less that $1000 Australian Dollars – and if anyone knows, finding cheap accommodation in London is next to impossible unless you want to share with 50 unwashed backpackers in a hostel (no offence to any unwashed backpackers out there!). So yes, I booked it and I am not sorry I booked it! it is in an area of London that I might not necessarily venture too much – Whitechapel and now that I know where I am going to be staying it is so much easier to plan the rest of my holiday.
I have a friend who is going on a 4 week holiday to France & Italy at the end of the month. She & her partner fly out of Brisbane on the 29th May for Paris. She has only just booked her flights and is now in the process of trying to book accommodation, a canal jaunt and various tours… and she is stressing!! I understand that some people like to fly by the seat of their pants but seriously.. doesn’t it stress you out?
All of that is not to say that my daily plans won’t change. But except for the dates I fly and the fact I must be in Greenwich on the 1st May 2014, everything else is completely changeable… to a point
