  1. I ride a Brompton folding bicycle – it’s great for bike touring, packs up to the size of a briefcase and starts lots of conversations because people can’t believe I go so far on a bike with wheel so small. Brompton owners love their bikes. Google it if you’re curious :)

  2. Great adventure, this was entertaining to read!

I’m curious, what kind of bike do you have?

  3. Mmmm the poutine makes up for the language difficulties! Which will only get worse the further east you get, by the by. Until you hit New Brunswick – then you get the fun of trying to decipher Acadian, the most mongrel of all the Frenglish variations. :D

  4. Merci Beaucoup for reading.

off to get some more poutine and find an internet cafe that doesn’t charge $7 per hour.

  5. I was shocked by Quebec as well. We just finished following the St. Lawrence in the opposite direction and, to be honest, I was appalled that while the rest of Canada had to cater to the french speakers, Quebec was under no similar requirement to cater to the English.

I was equally thrown off guard getting a cup of coffee from an American looking gas station, only to get tripped up at the register. I got screwed on the price, because I think she was asking how large my travel mug was. Once it was clear that I was a stupid, non-french-speaking American, my “refill” suddenly got rung up at $1.50C. C’est la vie.

Live it up–those heathen Canuckers and their armored war canoes will conquer that states once global warming sinks New York. ;)
