Spending Sunday visiting a zoo seems cliché. But after being in Lusaka, Zambia’s noisy capital, strolling through a quiet Zambian zoo is wonderful. Munda Wanga Environmental Park is relaxing, cheap, and easy to get to from Lusaka.
The Munda Wanga complex (entry fee 30 kwacha for adults) is 15 km south of Lusaka, and open daily. It includes a wildlife sanctuary, botanical garden, restaurant, bar, education centre, pool, waterslide, playground, and soccer fields. The government-run Zambian zoo was in disrepair before the Munda Wanga trust formed in 1998 and rehabilitated the complex, making it the enjoyable place it is today.
