Halloween is coming up and many people think about attending a ghost tour or visiting a creepy looking cemetery. But old graveyards are definitely the worst opportunity for hunting ghosts. To understand this, we need to look first of what ghosts are and what they do.
What exactly is a ghost?
For most people, ghosts are eerie creatures, living in ancient castles, foggy moors, on cemeteries or in old mansions. But in fact, dark dungeons, hidden catacombs or ancient ruins covered with a veil of sorrow and pain are not essential for them. They can be everywhere. A ghost is the energy, soul or personality of anyone who has died and has somehow gotten stuck between this plane of existence and the next. Ghosts can be perceived by the living in a number of ways: through visual manifestation (apparition), sound (voices), smell (frangrances and odors), touch – and sometimes they can just be sensed. The suspicion or recognition that ghosts exist is simply a resurrection of one of mankind´s oldest and most basic beliefs: There is a life after death.
Why ghosts manifest themselves is unknown. There seems to be a close association between aspects of the deceased person´s life and the manifestation as a ghost. These include a sudden or unusual death, strong ties to loved ones or a particular place, unfinished business, strong emotions, or a desire for revenge. To find a ghost, look for sites of disasters, criminal activity, suicides and other tragic events. This may be an old mansion, but it can be a hypermodern building, too.
Ghosts remain in a particular place because they are emotionally bounded to a building, a room, or special surroundings that affected them during their lives, or played an important role in their death. It is widely believed that sudden transition from the physical world to the Hereafter confuse the ghost. He or she remains in familiar or emotionally stabilizing surroundings to ease the strain. Ghosts may linger in a house, factory or restaurant waiting for a loved one or any hints that might help them deal with their new level of existence. Some ghosts wander through forests, on bridges, or alongside particular sections of a street. Others await enemies seeking revenge, or wait for a friend. But they do not visit cemeteries. They want to stay with the living, not with the dead.
Why spirits hate cemeteries
Ghosts are nearly humans. They share the same feelings and habits like us. Do you really want to stay on a cemetery for days, weeks or maybe centuries? This is the first reason why ghosts avoid graveyards. As mentioned before, spirits are bounded to particular places or events. They simply can not leave the battlefield, the crime scene or whatever. Ghosts also may fear the truth. Some of our dearly departed do not accept their own death. That is the reason why they are exist as ghosts. If they walk to the cemetery, they may see their grave or a tombstone with their own name.
Don´t worry about graves
Now we can draw a conclusion. Because most ghosts are not bounded to cemeteries or try to avoid them hunters should not try to meet them there. Countless horror movies and books gave us mind visions of dangerous creatures lurking between gravestones for fresh blood. Operators of ghost hunting tours know that and try to fulfill your imaginations. If you really want to see ghosts, do some research. Find out where the deceased person lived and died. Did he or she had certain habits which could lead to a paranormal apparition? Do not search for the body, search for the spirit of the deceased person.
