The modern Iranian town of Shush is located on the ancient site of Susa, which appears in the earliest Sumerian records, is one of the oldest known settlements in the world, and forms one of the world’s largest archaeology sites.

The city is mentioned a number of times in the Hebrew Bible, and the prophet Daniel is said to have lived there during the sixth century BC.

The supposed tomb of Daniel is in Shush, and is decorated with patterned tiles and topped by a conical white dome; you can also visit the Shush Castle, the museum, and the remains of the sixth century Apadana Palace.
