Tehran is one of the largest and yet cheapest cities in the world, and has only been the capital of Iran for a few hundred years.

As well as plenty of art, crafts, and archaeology museums such as the National Museum and the Saadabad Palaces Complex, you can visit the Peacock Throne, seat of the Shahs in the Golestan Palace, sup tea and smoke a hookah in a traditional tea house, or chow down on the most popular dish in the city, the chelow kabab.

The Imperial Crown Jewels, on display in the Iranian Central Bank, claim to be the largest and most valuable jewel collection in the world, including crowns, thrones, and jewel-studded weapons, as well as loose precious stones.
