Beirut
Beirut has long been known as the “Party capital of the Arab World”, and the Lebanese capital has certainly bounced back since the destructive civil war.
Situated on a peninsula stretching west into the Mediterranean, and abutted by mountains, Beirut is a city for the beautiful people, with exclusive clubs, fine dining, and high fashion.
It’s a cosmopolitan and happy-go-lucky place that has evolved over the centuries under the influence of the Greeks, Romans, Arabs, Ottomans, and French. The ruins of downtown display evidence of seven separate civilizations, and the National Museum of Beirut and the American University of Beirut Archaeology Museum are two places to go to learn about the history and archaeology of the city, the country, and the wider region.
You can promenade the corniche and take in sunset by Pigeons’ Rock, or live the Lebanese dream by skiing in the morning and lounging on the beach in the afternoon. And then, of course, dancing the night away!
