Suffering under an Israeli blockade and ruled by Hamas, the war-torn Gaza Strip is not a travel-friendly destination even if you do manage to get in. There are some beaches and upmarket hotels, and a number of pleasure parks have recently been built. Deir al-Balah is a city known for its beaches and date palms, and has a Bronze Age cemetery and a fourth century monastery.
