Sanaa
Sana’a is one of the oldest continually inhabited cities in the world, as well as one of the highest capital cities.
The old, walled city has been inhabited for more than 2,500 years, and has been declared a World Heritage Site.
The seventh century Great Mosque is one of the oldest in the world, and many of the houses are several storeys tall and elaborately patterned and decorated, with carved frames and stained glass.
You can browse for bread, spices, silverware, and antiques in the Salt Market, or steam yourself clean in one of the traditional hammams.
