While in Genoa a couple years ago, we had an evening flight to catch. We left our luggage at the hotel and spent the day sightseeing only to find our luggage stolen upon return.

Trying to file a police report when you speak almost no Italian is not fun!

For less than 20 bucks, the ease of mind the Doberman Bag Protector Alert gives you is priceless. Basically, it’s like a car alarm for your bags.

You place your bag down and set the alarm. If the bag is moved, it sets off a 100 decibel alarm – sure to put off any would-be thieves!.

An added bonus is that it comes with a special pull-pin feature that doubles as a panic button.

Perfect, if you’re out wondering around some dodgy streets at night.

That works fine in hotels ;-) but in hostels one keeps a bag in luggage stores usually over packed, bags are always moved. The alarm would go off. I think having something similar with a breakable tye, once broken the alarm will go off. That way you can attach the bag somewhere too.

I, too, got ripped off in Italy — on a train. This would likely have helped in my situation, depending on how sensitive the alarm is. (Hopefully not too.) Like the panic button. But I do agree with Dave about a breakable tie of sorts. More applicable in a variety of situations.

Well, if you'll be travelling a lot, it's nice to have a sturdy travel luggage with you. My cousins and I use Rimowa Travel bags and Porche Beauty Bags.
