It can affect tyroids but only after a long while using it. About the taste... it's true, not the best, but one can get used to it. One thing that stuck out was your mention of chlorine. I know most U.S. cities have been putting chlorine in their drinking water for 100 years because it kills bacteria, but I wasn't familiar with the tablets.
