Loved this! We've also been traveling and working as we travel the world non-stop for the last four years & use some of the same things.

We also have a Macbook & Macpro, but we travel as a family, so have a vaio pc laptop too which has come in handy for our child as many educational CD's just work on PC's. It's been advantageous often, to have all three for different needs, although sometimes we just travel with one and that will always be a Mac.

We don't use any cell phones or ipods & find we can do our whole lives just on the laptops, including calls.

I enjoyed hearing about how you work together, because we do in a similar way, mixing and matching our diverse skills and enjoying the creative process together. We purposely are not always working because we are raising a child together and the free time and being uplugged in nature is one of the benefits we prefer with travel. It was very interesting to learn that Lara grew up with a traveling lifestyle and how that impacted her creativity and style. ;)

Always fun to read how others manage & I might try a few of those things I never heard of before! Thanks!

Heather, he takes the photos and you do the editing? That would probably end in d-i-v-o-r-c-e for us ;-)
If you're both using macs and you set up a little network on the road, remember that if you use the AirPort Express you can drop-box files to each other as well – really comes in handy for us.

Alex, you're welcome!

A lovely read!

As a tech writer, keen photographer and someone else who is also remotely working (if only for two months) it's fun to see what others consider essential.
Thanks for taking the time out to write it out!

Awesome to hear from Mac users about what you're using. For my husband and I, I have the MacBook Pro and he has the MacBook. He takes most of the photos, but I do the editing. Just added AirPort Express to our wishlist... Hope you two are enjoying those vacation homes!

Nancy, If you're looking to simply ingest and throw out some JPGs for the web, you can do that from Adobe's Lightroom. I just prefer Aperture for the way I like to organise my photos. Resizing is generally done in Photoshop just before sharpening and making the final JPG for the web. You can automate this process in Photoshop through a technique called 'droplets' where you simply drop the files onto an icon on the desktop and it resizes them for you, but I prefer to DIY – because I'm pretty fussy with how my files look.
Hope that helps.

Well, we're really going to show our age here, but we actually met in the mid 1980s when I was in my final years of high school! We've always worked together in some capacity over the years - I managed Terry's band for a while in the late 80s, we made films together around the same period right up to the mid-90s, and we've always written together - everything from a teen fiction novel to travel writing - and read and edited eachother's film scripts and academic work. I guess because we've grown together our interests are closely aligned, so we don't really have any problems working or travelling together.

The biggest advantage (of many) is that our skills are complementary; Terry is a brilliant photographer and nothing is a problem for him technically or creatively (this is a guy who can learn any musical instrument and cooks like a chef!), and we each have different sets of writing and editing skills. A major disadvantage is that we are *always* working and never have any downtime, but then many people wouldn't call what we do 'work' would they?! ;)

Thanks for the technology break down. Just made the switch over to mac, so I've been looking for programs like Aperture. Out of curiosity, what program do you you to re-size photos on your mac?

Travel Writer/Travel Photographer duo. I love this concept.

Can you maybe tell us the advantages and disadvantages or being a Travel Duo? Also if not too personal, how'd you two meet? :)
