As part of the Matador Twitter contest, we will be spotlighting cool gear we’ll be giving away to lucky readers.
Marmot Genesis Jacket

Perfect for heavy outdoor activities in cold weather, the Marmot Genesis Jacket is waterproof, windproof, and highly breathable.

Marmot uses Techtonic Welded Construction, which bonds the stretch fabric as opposed to stitching.

The result? A seam-free shell that allows full range of motion without riding up.

This fabric is pretty insane. It kind of feels like what you’d imagine Batman’s suit to be made of — very comfortable and wearable, but very tough and completely wind/waterproof.

The Genesis Jacket also includes several water-repellent pockets, internal and external, as well as convenient “PitZips” for sweaty conditions.

Here’s a full list of features:

* Adjustable Velcro® Cuff Adjustable Velcro Cuff
* Angel-Wing Movement™ Allows Full Range of Motion in Arms so Jacket Doesn’t Ride Up
* Designed to Fit Over a Light Layer
* Elastic Draw Cord Hem For Adjustability in Serious Weather
* Inside Zip Pocket Secure Pocket to Store Small Items
* Internal E-Pocket Internal e-pocket
* Laser Drilled Pack Pockets™ with Water Resistant Zippers Laser Drilled Pack Pockets with Water Resistant Zippers
* Marmot M1 Softshell Water-Resistant, Breathable, Windproof, Durable, Warm, Stretch
* PitZips™ with Water Resistant Zippers PitZips with W/R Zippers
* Techtonic Welded Construction
* Windproof, Waterproof, and Breathable 4 way Stretch Fabric

AND THE WINNER IS…

Our friends at Marmot love your enthusiasm and have given us TWO of these sweet jackets, so there are actually two winners today. They are:

@shelaghbaird who said: “I’d use this so I could stop borrowing my friend’s jacket when I do alpine climbing and mountaineering. This would be perfect for Illimani in Bolivia! ”

and

@alanperlman who said: “Will field test it in every country I visit. Will wear it to Alaska in late August. Will wear it on the Presidential Range in September. Will brave the Boston winter in style. Will, cough cough, sleep with it on.”

We’ll be contacting them directly to send them their Marmot Genesis Jackets.

  • http://littleredtent.net/LRTblog Edie Howe

    @ambitious_wench

    I’d take this baby with me in rainy season here in California–Overnights in early spring in the Sierra in lieu of my down jacket; Snowboard photography at Badger Pass, California’s longest running ski resort in Yosemite, tromping the Sierra foothills in rainstorms at sunset, hoping for rainbows.

    I’d roll it and use it for a pillow as I slept in my car to catch the first light at Mono Lake Tufa, or in the Grove of the Patriarchs in the Ancient Bristlecone Forest.

    I’d put it on in the early morning at Cathedral Lake to keep mosquitoes from my arms and neck, and then use it to wave to my friend on the granite berm on the far side when it was time to regroup for lunch.

    I’d put it on to hide the trail dust when I go to the Tioga Pass Resort for a piece of pie and coffee after three days in the wilderness, and smile and say I’d won it from Matador when people would ask where I got it.

    And then I’d read the care instructions, and follow them precisely because I know I’d never be able to replace it on my pay.

Would probably also end up using it in the winter for morning runs since it allows for so much motion, perhaps on bike rides when it gets chillier. I guess I would just never take it off. Just wash it in the shower with me :)

  • Rachael

It is organised every year in Nijmegen in mid-July as a means of promoting sport and exercise. Participants walk 30, 40 or 50 kilometers daily, and, on completion, receive a royally approved medal (Vierdaagsekruis). The participants are mostly civilians, but there are also a few thousand military participants.
