Russell Simmons

American icon and entrepreneur extraordinaire behind Rush Communications, Russell Simmons is co-founder of hip-hop label Def Jam, creator of clothing fashion lines Phat Farm, Argyleculture, and American Classics, and the current Editor-in-chief behind Global Grind.

Well, technically Russell doesn’t carry a backpack, but he is an ultralight traveler.

Russell rarely carries anything with him. He is the type of person that sends his luggage via Fed-Ex before he travels to avoid checking anything at the airport. Nowadays he carries an iPad. Besides that, he’s usually empty-handed, save for his prayer beads which are always on him.

So Russell shared his items with Matador below:

Blackberry

A Blackberry is a handy little device for keeping on top of and running a multi-million dollar empire, so Russell naturally owns one.

iPad

Russell really digs the new Apple iPad. According to his assistant, he can read the Global Grind all day long on it.

Yankees Hat

As a proud New Yorker, Russell always has a Yankees hat with him. For no superstitious reasons besides showing support for a team he loves.

Yoga Mat

Since becoming a vegan in 1998, Russell routinely practices yoga and Ahimsa – a form of Buddhism that prohibits the killing or injuring of living beings, hence his vegan lifestyle.

Prayer beads

A deeply spiritual man, Russell uses his prayer beads every single day.

This is fascinating. Russell Simmons does travel light. A yoga mat and prayer beads.
I see Mediation is very important him. Hmm I wonder if I can fit a yoga mat in my carry-on? I need more balance.
