Recycling is a huge part of preventing the pollution of our land and oceans, reducing our CO2 emissions, and saving the planet’s natural resources, so it should be something we thrive to do properly and consistently.

However, we all know how difficult it can be to sort out our trash when we’re not at home. As a person who spends a great deal of time traipsing around, I can attest of the almost impossibility to recycle anything, anywhere, except our homes. I’m not saying there are not any recycling bins out there (although we can certainly use a lot more), but they are hard to find, so I always end up stuffing my backpack with items to be recycled later.

But things are changing and people who care are finding solution to help everyone make recycling easier when on the go. Intellibins is a new app that will enable you to find the nearest public recycling location using your mobile device. Intellibins currently covers New York City (all five boroughs) and can help millions of people by giving them the location of the nearest bin (usually within walking distance) that fits their needs.

It’s currently available on the App Store, so get it and cross your fingers that it caches on so we can all start making a difference, no matter where we are.
