Puerto Rico's First LGBT Monument Honors Orlando Victims

Puerto Rico created its first LGBT monument this summer honoring the victims of the Orlando massacre at Pulse nightclub. Almost half of the victims from the Orlando massacre were of Puerto Rican descent. The country unveiled the monument during San Juan’s Pride celebration in June.

The monument sits in the capital city of San Juan, at the entrance of Sixto Escobar Stadium, with the inscription:

“This tribute to life strengthens our commitment to fight hate — the product of homophobia — with love and respect. Our slogan resounds in all our hearts: Love is love, is love, is love…”
