We need more guys like him around.

And I think Heather is right too, this could open up a dialogue about people with disabilities. It seems that by not discussing or sweeping such ‘taboo’ topics under the rug, we’re pretending that they don’t exist. Or people put so much focus on the disability they forget there’s more to a person than physical limitations or other attributes. We should encourage everyone to reach their highest potential. I don’t how many people watch Glee, but it’s like when the cheerleading coach Sue was just as tough on Becky (a girl with Down Syndrome) as she was on her other kids. Mr Schuester (another teacher) complained to Sue that she was picking on Becky, but Sue pointed out that she was just holding Becky to the same standards she did as the other kids. Becky wanted to be treated just like every other kid in the school and that’s what Sue was doing. I don’t think we’ve gotta be all mean and Sue Sylvester like, but a good point was made, people want to be treated equally. And a show with a host like Zach could pave the way.

In an environment here in the US where it’s so taboo to discuss any type of physical or mental conditions deemed ‘disabilities’ a show like the one Zach proposes would be a refreshing way to get talk on the table rather than be all hush-hush about it. There is this reigning philosophy that only people with specific disabilities/handicaps are allowed to discuss those things (even in academics) and I think Zach’s show would be an awesome way to open up the dialogue.
