Sala Principe is full of young, unclassy, snotty kids who think that with a bit of money they can look good. I would avoid this place at all costs. There is nothing authentic about it, especially not in the flamenco field!

And I forgot to mention Tabanco, an intimate venue on San Gregorio in the Albaicin which hosts flamenco artists. Also in Albaicin is the restaurant Zoraya where for the price of a meal you get a flamenco show twice a night. This place is recommended if you like to go early as their first show is at 8 pm. If you are lucky you may catch some of the best local dancers such as Ana Calí performing.

This list is sadly out of date now. The Eshavira closed in 2010, plans to re-open as soon as the building has been renovated but no date as yet. Huerto de Loro also closed. I also believe Soniquete has closed its doors.

Upsetter is now called " El Chien Andaluz" and continues with flamenco. Best show to catch is el Niño de las Almendras.

American friends of mine recenty went to Vimaambi and were very disappointed, a horror show, expensive and amateur ! Likewise they were not impressed with Tablao Albaicin.

This list does not mention Chumbera which has a summer programme every Saturday night. Situated at the top of the Sacromonte with amazing views, good shows and cheap entrance, is highly recommended. Also the Booga Club has a flamenco/jazz fusion night on Weds night which is an opportunity to see local artists improvising, very impressive. Thursday nights at Sala Prinicipe, a beautiful old place in the Realejo where for 7 euros you can catch the young local flamencos showing what they are made of.

Thanks for the tips. Unfortunately Huerto del Loro is closed (we tried to go and the building is for sale), and the Upsetter also closed, but has changed names and ownership. It still looks like a happening place, but I'm not sure of the line-up.

I just posted a comment here but it seemed to disappear into cyberspace... I want to say that this is a great post, Lucy, and apologise in advance if this comment is duplicated.

We love watching flamenco in Granada but you've included a couple of venues here that we didn't know about. We'll definitely check them out.

Thanks
