Free text messaging services at Burning Man
This is from burner John Gilmore:
“Ever lose your friends in a dust storm? Get separated while on an arttour in the middle of the night? Missed finding your homies or your old flame all week, even though you know they’re at Burning Man somewhere? This year, text them!
The Papa Legba theme camp is offering free on-playa text messaging services to BM participants, using your own phone. It may even be possible to make short voice calls. Not all phones use the same technology we do (GSM-850), but US AT&T and T-Mobile phones work. Don’t forget your car charger. On the playa, respond to the “welcome” text message to get service. Try it out in your camp first — before you’re disconnected, dusty, and lost.
