Bigelow Aerospace(<a href="http://www.bigelowaerospace.com) " target="_blank" rel="nofollow"><a href="http://www.bigelowaerospace.com)" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://www.bigelowaerospace.com)</a></a>is working on a similar project and has put 2 different inflatable test capsules into space, which are essentially smaller versions of their planned space hotels. If I remember correctly, they even have a competition for the first commercial spacecraft that is able to dock with their capsules.
