Satellite Wars: Iran vs. The BBC

Global media giant the BBC has launched a Persian (or Farsi) language television station, available by satellite in Iran, Afghanistan and Tajikistan. The company already offers Farsi radio broadcasts, as well as a website at BBCPersian.com.
Despite the popularity of the radio channel (10 million listeners are reported to be tuning in), the Iranian government sees the new TV station as — how do I put this? — unnecessary, and unwelcome.
“We do not consider this network as suitable for the security of the country,” said Iran’s Intelligence Minister, “and will take the necessary measures with regards to it.”
The BBC has warned its potential viewers to use caution in participating in phone-ins and other interactive events.
