Nike’s epic World Cup commercial
COMMERCIAL-WISE I think the World Cup is gaining on the Super Bowl. They may not have quite the media pull, but over the past eight years, ad campaigns at the World Cup have actually gotten pretty memorable. I can’t think about Germany 2006 without remembering Nike’s Joga Bonito campaign with Eric Cantona.
This year, Nike’s stepped it up again with “Write the Future” a new three-minute spot directed by Academy Award nominee Alejandro González Iñárritu. The commercial shows Wayne Rooney, Cristiano Ronaldo, Didier Drogba, and other athletes playing as they daydream about what effect their success or failure on the field will have on the future. Some of the better reveries include Rooney fantasizing about beating Roger Federer at ping-pong and Ronaldo imagining himself as a character on The Simpsons.
The spot will make its first TV appearance during the European Cup final on May 22nd. You can catch the full video below:
